Hoe hard mag je rijden met een daktent?
Stel, je gaat een daktent kopen en staat te popelen om op pad te gaan. Dan rijst al snel de vraag: “Hoe hard kan (en mag) ik hier eigenlijk mee rijden?”
In de praktijk blijkt dat de meeste kampeerders veilig en comfortabel tussen de 100 en 120 km/u rijden. Dat is geen keiharde regel, maar een praktische richtlijn. De exacte maximumsnelheid hangt bovendien af van je auto, je daktent én de wet- en regelgeving in het land waar je op dat moment rijdt.
Waarom is de snelheid zo belangrijk?
Een daktent verandert de vorm en het zwaartepunt van je auto. Hierdoor wordt je voertuig windgevoeliger en neemt je remafstand toe. Ook kunnen fabrikanten en verzekeraars specifieke voorwaarden stellen, zoals een maximumsnelheid om schade of ongelukken te voorkomen. Een te hoge snelheid kan bovendien resulteren in oncomfortabel veel windgeruis en meer brandstofverbruik.
Waar moet je op letten?
Een van de meest essentiële aspecten bij het monteren van een daktent is de draagkracht van je auto. Er wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen de dynamische belasting (tijdens het rijden) en de statische belasting (wanneer de tent is uitgeklapt en je erin ligt).

- Montage & garantie: Een stevig gemonteerde daktent is een voorwaarde voor veilig rijden. Bij onjuiste bevestiging kan de fabrikant zich beroepen op vervallen garantie of aansprakelijkheid.
2. Wet- en regelgeving
In Nederland geldt doorgaans geen aparte snelheidslimiet voor daktenten, maar volg je de algemene regels (100 km/u overdag, 120-130 km/u op bepaalde snelwegen). Ga je de grens over? Dan kunnen er andere regels gelden als je rijdt met een zware of grote dakbelasting. Neem vooraf even de tijd om de plaatselijke verkeerswetgeving door te nemen.
3. Veiligheid en stabiliteit
Een daktent voegt extra gewicht toe bovenop je auto. Hierdoor verandert je zwaartepunt en kun je meer last hebben van zijwind of windstoten, met name bij inhalen van vrachtwagens of rijden in bergachtig gebied. Daarnaast zal je remafstand toenemen. Ga je te hard, dan ben je minder wendbaar en loop je meer risico bij onverwachte situaties. Over het algemeen zijn hardcover daktenten zwaarder en een groter oppervlakte wanneer ingeklapt. Deze hebben dus meer invloed op het zwaartepunt.

Stop regelmatig – zeker tijdens lange ritten – om te checken of de tent en bevestigingsmaterialen nog goed vastzitten. - Pas je rijgedrag aan
Houd meer afstand tot je voorgangers, anticipeer op zijwind en neem bochten rustiger dan je gewend bent. - Vermijd topsnelheden
